Milton LandLab is a collaboration between UVA’s Landscape Architecture faculty and students with support from the A-School’s Fabrication Lab. We share an interest in studying and proposing methodologies and practices for design research based in landscape media. We are united by the belief that landscape education and design benefit from opportunities to engage one-to-one with materials, time, and processes of installation and maintenance. Through our collective and individual experiences at Milton, we hope to better understand: How might being on-site and engaged with our medium and tools impact us? How might it change our design practices?
How might a land lab, defined as a space for experimentation, observation, practice, disturbance, and site maintenance, enrich design education and the field of landscape architecture?
